Allotment

We are fortunate to have a large community allotment on Beechwood Avenue. Our allotment enables us to learn about science and horticulture in a practical setting. We grow a wide variety of vegetables and fruit. These are used in school meals and by our families. In the event that we have surplus crops, we donate these to a local foodbank.

Recently some of our crops were used in a "restaurant takeover". Millsy's, a restaurant in our community, enabled us to takeover the running of the restaurant for two nights. Pupils trained to be chefs and the front of house team. Another group of pupils took on the marketing and graphic design for the event.

Classes visit our allotment on a weekly basis and they take part in a wide range of activities including sowing seeds, planting bulbs, weeding, the creation of a pond and a bug hotel, harvesting and scientific investigations.

During the holidays, families are invited to help us maintain the allotment.

We have had a number of very successful family events including a pumpkin soup evening, a summer barbecue and winter wreath making.

The allotment gives us a focus on Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable Communities); 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 15 (Life on Land).
