Year 5 were very pleased to take part in a Festival of Sport at Warwick University this week. The event was planned in collaboration with Moseley, Corpus Christi, Finham Park 2 and Riverbank Academy. Pupils took part in a wide range of sports that were organised and led by our Changemakers. They got the opportunity to participate in a Bollywood dance workshop and a Commonwealth Games art project. A big well done to our Year 5 and 6Changemakers who were fantastic sports leaders and role models |
Thank you to the parents who joined us at the PTA meeting on Tuesday– it was great to see so many new faces. We are looking forward to planning for the year ahead at the PTA AGM on 20th September. Please put the date in your diary! |
We’ve had a successful Refugee Week in school
with lots of activities based around the theme of
‘healing’. Roya Kouhyar from Coventry Refugee
and Migration Centre shared her own story during
some assemblies this week. Thank you for your support and generosity with the nonuniform day.
We are thrilled to announce that we have had notification this week that we have been awarded an Eco Schools Green flag!
When assessing our application, the Eco Schools team were delighted that our Eco team led Green day and shared a clear environmental message to all classes. They were also impressed with the progression of curriculum topics across the school and the important environmental issues that are addressed for example deforestation and habitat destruction, global conservation and the issues of sustainability.
A special mention was also given to the Year 6 eco houses project and our Living Walls project with the Royal Society. The team felt that our application was very strong and that it gave an impression of a school and a community who are dedicated to improving their local and therefore global environment. Well done and thank you to Mrs Dooley, Mrs Andrews and our school Eco team
Sports Day for Years 1 – 6 will take place on Tuesday 12th July from 10am – 12noon at King Henry VIII’s School, Warwick Road, CV3 6AQ. On this day the children should come to school at the normal time. They will need to wear their school PE kit and bring a bottle of water. We will register the children and walk them up to King Henry’s. We request that parents who would like to join us for Sports Day, meet us at King Henry’s School. We have planned a Sports Day that combines both participation and competitive sport. All children from Years 1-5 will take part in a carousel of activities that will be led by our Year 6 pupils. Throughout the morning, children in each year group will be called from the multisport activities to take part in one running race. After they have run in their race, they will rejoin the carousel of activities. We have put the children into mixed age teams for the carousel of multisport activities. The teams will each work in one zone during the morning – red, blue, green or yellow. We have put siblings into the same team/zone so that parents and families can stay in the same place to watch their children. When your child’s year group is called to take part in their running race, you will be invited over to the track to watch. Reception children will have their own mini sports event at school, which will prepare them for taking part in a whole school Sports Day next year |
Please note we have some new tabs on our website, please visit our ECO page, Living Walls page and Schools of Sanctuary page for more information.
As the days are becoming hotter, please ensure that your child’s sweatshirt/ cardigan is clearly labelled with their name. The childrentake them off when they become hot and they cannot be returned to the correct owner if they are unlabelled. In addition, please ensure your child has a water bottle and sun hat each day and that sun cream is applied in the morning before school. Thank you for your ongoing support |
On Friday 10th June, the children took part in lots of exciting activities for Arabic day. We had a special Arabic teacher visit school to work with each year group to teach them about Arabic language and culture. The children learnt how to form
Arabic letters with playdough, how to write their name using calligraphy and how to say whether they liked or disliked different foods.
Arabic speaking children presented to their class and parents were invited into school to tell Arabic stories and share information on different aspects of Arabic culture.
Thank you to the QFI for helping to fund the resources for the day.
We were delighted to welcome the Peacemakers into school this
week. They have been working with Year 4 and 5 on peer mediation. We now have a group of pupils who are currently training to be peer mediators from September. The trainers have been very impressed with our pupils' attitude to learning and their
listening skills.
Next week Earlsdon Primary will be joining with other schools across the country to take part in Refugee Week 2022. Refugee Week is a UK-wide festival celebrating the
contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
This year’s theme is healing. During the week children will develop an understanding of refugee experiences, learn about refugee migration and think about what we
can do to make people feel welcome. Friday 24th June will be a non-uniform day. The children will be invited to donate money
towards Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre and Medical Aid Ukraine.
Children in Y5 and Y6 will be selling items that they have made to raise money. The sales will happen at playtimes and lunchtimes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Prices range from 10p to £1.50.
