  • Returning to school

    Fri 26 Feb 2021

We are looking forward to welcoming back all of the children on Monday 8th March

We will be reviewing our COVID-19 risk assessment over the next few days and will remind parents next week of some of the key arrangements in relation to the beginning and end of the day and what the children need to bring to school.

Thank you for your continued support with the children's remote learning. We recognise that it has been difficult for children and families to re-start their learning at home after the half term break. We hope that the children will be able to engage with the daily learning next week including accessing recorded and live lessons and continuing to share their learning on j2e or through the parent email.

    Out of School Club

If you plan to use Breakfast club and / or After School club when the children return to school, we would like to remind you to book the sessions you require by the Wednesday of the previous week so that we can organise the necessary staffing levels.

    School Meals

When the children return to school they will continue to order their school meal choices during the morning registration session. However, to support this process it is important that the children stick to the same meal pattern. For example, if your child usually has a packed lunch on Monday and Tuesday and then school meals for the rest of the week, they must stick to the same pattern every week. If changes do need to be made,  it is important that parents inform the school office a few days in advance. Thank you for your support.

  • World Book Day 2021

    Fri 26 Feb 2021

    • As next Thursday is World Book Day, our favourite books will be the focus of our online assemblies next week.
    • Some World Book Day activities will also be added the additional challenges/ activities section of the daily remote learning plans.
    • In addition, Mrs Leigh has created a word hunt for the children to enjoy at Spencer Park. The children are invited to visit the park during the week, follow the clues and collect the words along the way. We would love to see the children enjoying the word hunt and would like to encourage you to send some photos of the children to parent@earlsdon.coventry.sch.uk. We hope you have fun in the park! To get you started here is the first clue:

    • Clue 1: To find your next clue you need to look all around, you'll find it where sleeping insects are found.
    • One of our parents will be hosting an Earlsdon Primary World Book Day fair virtually on Facebook where she will be selling Usborne books. The event will run from the 5th - 7th March 2021 but is ready to join now via this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/132523452012319/Over the next week additional information will be added including special offers, new releases and a chance to win some free books. • Green News

    Fri 26 Feb 2021

We are very excited to have been awarded a small grant to take part in a “Living Walls” research project, with the Royal Society of Education and a STEM partner from University of Loughborough. The project will involve researching the impact on children’s well-being when learning in a greener and more natural environment, both in the classroom and outdoors.

We now need lots of plants, so if you have green fingers or have family or friends who would be willing to donate a plant or seeds, we would be very grateful!  Below is a list of plants that have been tested by NASA to 'grow fresh air' :

Areca Palm, Dragon Tree, Anthurium, Snake Plant, Aloe Vera, Heart-leaf philodendron, Spider Plant, Succulents.

We are also hoping to grow strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes and add some colour with the use of bedding plants. Your support in growing a greener environment at school would be very welcome.

  • Remote learning

    Fri 12 Feb 2021
    • We want to take this opportunity to say thank you for all of your ongoing support this half term. It has been a challenging period for everyone, and we appreciate the hard work and effort from the children, parents and staff during these difficult weeks.
    • Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who have supported the children to work through each lesson on their daily remote learning plan. Thank you for downloading videos and PowerPoints, supporting the children to access the live sessions and helping them to upload their learning for teacher feedback. We recognise that there are many demands upon your time and we are very grateful for your commitment and support.
    • We are delighted that the children have been so engaged with the range of lessons and have enjoyed speaking to their teachers on j2e, on the phone and during the live teams sessions and assemblies.
    • We also wanted to make you aware that most of the live assemblies have been set up as a repeat Microsoft Teams meeting and as such may appear in your calendar during the half term holiday. We would like you to ignore the links for tomorrow and next week- year group assemblies will start again during the week beginning 22nd February.
  • A message from Molly our therapy dog!

    Fri 12 Feb 2021

Kelly, Molly's owner, sent this message to us this week:

To all the children and staff at Earlsdon primary.

Hello just a message to say Molly hasn’t forgotten her team of children and her uniform is ironed and ready to go. She misses all her treats and fusses from you but is enjoying home schooling her own 'human' children. She has to go up every morning and get her 7 year old brother washed- after lots of licks he's ready to start school! She watches over both of them just in case any snacks drop on to the floor (its very handy)!

Here are some photos of Molly and her sister Pippa enjoying the snow. Pippa is currently in training and will be assessed after lockdown to see if she can become a therapy dog just like her big sister Molly.

We miss you all but will see you soon.

    Kelly and Molly x

  • Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge- We've moved up to 4th place!!!

    Fri 12 Feb 2021

Thank you to everyone who has already participated in the Go Parks challenge- we were excited to see that we had moved up to 4th place on the leader board so well done and keep it up!!!

As you know the Schools Challenge will run throughout February and schools are competing against each other - the most active schools over the month will be rewarded! The information below provides an explanation of how the schools challenge works:

    • By scanning a QR code on a walk, run, scoot or cycle in a participating park, children can earn points for their school with each visit.
    • To take part you will need to look out for the QR code which will be located on a banner or on a poster in local parks, scan the code, open the link to complete the entry and choose to support our school.
    • Other family members can also enter and support our school. Anyone entering, must be 18 years or older – this parent, guardian or bubble member will then pledge their points to our school.
    • Entries are unlimited for the duration of the challenge - but you can only enter once a day.
    • The QR codes are located in a mixture of 33 local parks and green spaces around the city including the War Memorial park, Spencer park, Canley Ford and Hearsall Common.
    • The organisers are encouraging families to stay local and not to make unnecessary travel, but to incorporate this challenge into daily exercise.
  • Earlsdon Window Wanderland

    Fri 12 Feb 2021

Thank you for all of your support and the children's contribution to our Very Hungry Caterpillar display. The balcony and windows are looking very colourful - we hope the children enjoy the display when they are out in the local area.

  • Children's mental health week

    Tue 02 Feb 2021

The assemblies in Key Stage 2 this week focussed on encouraging the children to express themselves, which is the theme of Children's Mental Health Week 2021. The Oak National Academy and Children's BAFTA have produced a mental health week assembly which can be accessed through the latest news section of our website. In addition, in the pastoral section of the website you will find ideas on how to support your child's well-being, mental health and also some guidance for children who are dealing with bereavement. Please contact school if you need any further guidance or support.
