St Barbara's Church warmly invites you to their Young Families' Easter Craft Workshop and Service on Sunday 17th March at 4.00pm. All are very welcome.
A huge congratulations to two of our robotics teams who qualified for and competed in the National finals on Sunday and Monday at Telford. Both teams performed very well and we were delighted to be placed 5th and 7th in UK. This is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of the pupils.
This year we entered the National Reading Champions Quiz for the first time. Pupils have to answer questions about a wide range of books from Shakespeare to re?cently published literature. We are delighted that our team was the highest scoring primary school in the West Midlands. They had a very impressive knowledge of litera?ture and their enthusiasm for reading shone through.
,As you are aware the School Council have de?cided to nominate Earlsdon Community Li?brary as our charity of choice for this academic year. Therefore we will not be collecting for general charities such as Comic Relief. Friday 15th March is Red Nose Day. If they would like to, the children can come to school wearing their Red Nose Day merchandise or wearing an item of red clothing– this is optional and please make sure any red noses/ head bands etc. are clearly named. The children are also welcome to make a donations, but in line with the wishes of the school council, this money will be donated to our community library. Donation buckets will be positioned on the school path on Friday. Thank you for our sup?port- we are certain that our local library will be thrilled with our efforts.
The children have enjoyed a range of activities this week to celebrate World Book Day in?cluding a visit from the local author, Aaron Ashmore, who spoke about how he became an author and where his inspiration for his stories comes from. They also enjoyed visiting the bring and buy book sale, reading with children from across the school, visiting the library and also demonstrating their creativity with their wonderful potato book characters. Thank you for your support.
5W were the first class to visit our school allotment last Friday. They enjoyed learning about how things grow and about composting. We look forward to enjoying the strawberries and rhubarb that they planted. Thank you to all pupils who entered the logo competition. Local artist Katie O will be judging the entries. This will certainly be a difficult job due to the very high standard of designs!
We appreciate that our school site becomes very busy at the start and the end of the day as we have around 420 children settling into school in the morning and being safely handed to their parents at 3.15pm. To help manage so many people on the site we have a well established one way system around the school building. Thank you to the vast majority of parents who follow the one way system by entering through the main school gate, walking across the playground and exiting the site through the car park gate. Unfortunately we are starting to see more parents entering and exiting through the main school gate and as such would to like to politely remind everyone to support the school routines by following the one way system around the building at the beginning and end of the school day. Thank you for your ongoing support.
DfE guidance stresses the importance of good attendance for all children to support their attainment, wellbeing and wider life chances. When a child’s attendance falls below 90% this is a cause for concern for schools and local au?thorities– 10% absence equates to a child being absent for 1 day or more a fortnight across a full school year. DfE guidance also states that leave of absence should only be granted in exceptional circumstances, and as such holidays taken during term time will not be authorised. If leave of absence is unauthor?ised by the school, the government requires the school to follow up such absences with a Penalty Notice Fine of £60 to each parent and for each child. (Collection of the fine is not administered by the school and the money collected is not given to the school.)
Congratulations to our Code Violet robotics team who won the local league tournament on Monday. Two of our teams have now qualified for Nationals. It is a great achievement to have two of the top twenty teams in the UK. Good luck to the teams on Sunday and Monday.
Well done to our archery team and gymnastics team for representing the school this week at School Games tournaments. All pupils were a real credit to the school.
