The colourful Festival of Lights is set to be celebrated all over the world. This year, Diwali falls on Monday 24th October. The celebration takes place after the conclu sion of harvest, coinciding with the new moon. Diwali is celebrated on the 15th day of the Hindu month of Kartik. It usually takes place on the day of the new moon or Amavasy, which is holy to Hindus and considered the darkest night of the year. The annual celebrations last five days and mark the start of the Hindu New Year. |
During the first week after half term we will be sharing and discussing the NSPCC PANTS resources and enjoying the Pantasaurus song in assembly. Personal safety and reflecting on who we can talk to if we have any worries will be the focus of our assemblies. Parents can access the resources on the NSPCC website, but please let us know if you would like any more information or would like to discuss this further
Key Stage 2 were invited to attend a live rehearsal of
The Nutcracker with the Royal Opera House this
week. The children had the opportunity to meet the
dancers and to ask questions. This is part of our ongoing work with the Royal Opera House which will culminate in a showcase performance at Coventry Cathedral in December.
Our Coventry Young Ambassadors enjoyed a day of training and team building at Coombe Country Park. They worked with Young Ambassadors from schools across the city. As always, they were a real credit to the school and we were delighted with their contributions to the day. |
In response to new government guidance we are currently
reviewing our Attendance Policy. The new guidance stresses
the importance of good attendance for all children to support their attainment, wellbeing and wider life chances.
When a child’s attendance falls below 90% this is a cause for
concern for schools and local authorities– 10% absence
equates to a child being absent for 1 day or more a fortnight
across a full school year. Please note that the new DfE guidance also states that leave of absence should only be granted in exceptional circumstances, and as such, in line with our current Attendance Policy, leave of absence will not be granted for the purpose of a family holiday. (Each application for leave of absence will beconsidered individually.)
Please continue to contact school if your child is ill and unable
to attend on a specific day. In line with our safeguarding procedures, we will contact families and carry out home visits if
we do not know why a child is absent from school.
Thank you for your ongoing support in securing good school
attendance for your child/ children.
We aim to take the children outside as much as possible to enjoy their playtimes, including when it is windy, there is light rain/ drizzle or when the weather be comes colder. Please support us by ensuring that your child has a warm, waterproof coat to wear to school. Thank you |
