On Thursday 23rd Reception children will be taking part in Elmer day, so they are invited to wear multicoloured clothes to school to celebrate 35 years of Elmer. We welcome the rest of the children to wear comfy clothes for Book Trust and can bring their favourite book to school, to share with their peers. £1.00 donations will be going to our charity of choice.

  • Support

    Fri 15 Jan 2021

In addition to the regular contact from class teachers and feedback on learning, staff are also contacting children and families who receive additional support in school. Please contact school if you feel you need any extra support, and we will try to help in any way that we can.

We have attached a leaflet for parent and carers on this weeks update, sharing information about improving access to psychological therapy for people who are feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, or low in mood.

  • Free School Meals

    Fri 15 Jan 2021

Free school meal vouchers have been emailed to parents. We have chosen to use a local voucher scheme rather than food parcels but will keep you informed if we need to move to the national voucher scheme after the announcements from the DfE this week.

  • Coventry SEND service have sent through links to apps and websites which may support learning and wellbeing, during lockdown. They have advised they have not all been monitored- please check suitability first

  • Remote Learning

    Fri 08 Jan 2021

Thank you for all of your positive feedback on this week's remote learning- we are thrilled that the children are enjoying the structure of the daily plans, the range of activities and lessons including the audio PowerPoints that their teachers have prepared. We appreciate that there have been some technical issues when accessing resources and documents but hope that the support that has been offered so far has helped. You will find two short videos on the class pages of the website to support you and the children: Introduction to Remote Learning and Uploading and Sharing work on j2e.

Below are a few points that will hopefully answer some of the common questions we have received:

    • Class teachers are preparing daily remote learning plans and resources to deliver a blended approach to learning as the lessons on the daily plans are followed by the children who are accessing their learning in school as well as those who are learning at home.
    • We would love the children to share a few pieces of learning each week with their class teacher either by uploading this onto j2E (look out for the video on how to do this) or by sending a photo/ screenshot to the parent@earlsdon email address marking it clearly for the attention of your child's class teacher. Thank you and well done to the children who have been sharing their work this week.
    • The older children have been using their plans to ensure they can structure their day as if they were in school. It is however perfectly acceptable for parents with younger children to pick some key learning activities and complete them in smaller more manageable chunks throughout the day to fit around the needs of your family. Not all of the work has to be completed every day- we are so impressed that families have been supporting the children so well as we recognise that you will be juggling many commitments and demands on your time.
    • Please contact school if you require any resources to support your children at home or if you don't have your child's green home learning book (Y1-Y6). We are happy to arrange for you to collect the resources you need, but they will need to be collected at the beginning or end of the day (between 8.45-9am or 3pm-3.15pm) as we are trying to keep visitors to a minimum during the school day.
    • We will be using Microsoft Teams to invite the children who are learning at home to a weekly remote learning session. This will provide the opportunity to celebrate the children's learning, offer guidance, provide feedback and explain next steps. These Teams sessions will only be available to the children who are learning at home, so if your child is in school (or attends school on any day during the week) and you receive an invite there is no need for your child to attend.
  • Provision for children of key workers and vulnerable children

    Fri 08 Jan 2021

Thank you to all families who replied to our request for information regarding key worker status. We are trying to finalise the information and offer places to as many children as possible and support as many families as we can.

    • As such it is essential that you book the days you require using the Gateway (or email the parent email address) if you have been offered a key worker place. We have had a significant response and are trying to balance the needs of families with the requirements for social distancing and safety measures for staff and children in our building.
    • We will continue to review our provision in line with up-to-date guidance and capacity issues within school and will contact families to offer spaces where possible.
    • Breakfast club and After School club sessions also need to be booked for the week ahead so that this provision can be adequately staffed.
    • Children should wear their school uniform to school unless they have P.E when they should wear their school P.E uniform- we are following the year groups P.E timetable as shared with parents and children just before the Christmas holiday.
  • School closures January 5th 2021

    Mon 04 Jan 2021

From January 5th 2021 school will remain open for Key Worker and Vulnerable children only. Remote learning plans are on Class Pages and children can also access their J2E and Fiction Express accounts.

Please monitor your parent e-mails for regular updates and information from the school.

Stay safe during this challenging time.
